Details of the Build
Below is a breakdown of my build. Adjustments may be needed based on your room size and desired setup, but this should serve as a solid starting point and help guide your project. Look at the shopping list below for direct links to the items i used in by build.
The Projector
This projector delivers full smart capabilities in stunning 4K at an unbeatable price. My impact screen measures 15' x 8.5', and from a 20-foot throw distance, this projector fills the entire view perfectly. For the combination of performance and value, you simply won’t find a better option.
Impact Screen
This impact screen comes highly recommended by several YouTubers — and after using it myself, I can fully agree. If your budget allows, spend the extra $45 for the optional flaps. They add a layer of protection, help frame the screen, and give the entire setup a much more polished, professional look.
When choosing an impact screen, aim for a 16:9 aspect ratio. This gives you a true widescreen image and prevents empty “voids” or black bars on the sides, ensuring your projector fills the screen properly.
Launch Monitor
The Square Golf Launch Monitor is an impressive piece of equipment that delivers professional-level performance at an affordable price. From its powerful software to accurate ball tracking and in-depth swing data, Square provides everything you need for a realistic and enjoyable golf experience.

Smooth, user-friendly software
Full-course simulations
Compact, space-saving design

No Monthly Subscription
Unlike many competitors, Square does not require a monthly subscription. Instead, it uses a simple and flexible credit-based system for course play.
Credit System Breakdown

1,000 credits = $19.99 USD
Only ~$0.36 for a full 18 holes per player
This makes Square one of the most cost-effective launch monitors on the market—perfect for home simulators, practice sessions, and casual rounds with friends.
Garage Status
If you’re planning to build this setup in your garage, make sure you have at least 9 feet of ceiling height for proper swing clearance. To maximize headroom, I installed a wall-mounted garage door opener, which frees up valuable overhead space. There are a few good options out there, but I chose the Chamberlain model and it’s worked perfectly for my setup.
The Frame
When building the frame for your impact screen, I recommend adding just one extra inch of space around the edges. The typical 2–3 inches often suggested can lead to excessive bounce-back. That extra inch is enough to keep the screen tight without compromising performance. The tee connectors I used are easy to use and let you leave overhang on either side to support with sandbags.
Drywall Repair
I highly recommend adding backdrop curtains to the sides of your impact screen. Speaking from experience, a golf ball traveling at 144 mph can do some serious damage — and yes, it will go through drywall
Ambiance
I wanted the space to feel relaxed, comfortable, and fun — a true escape. Behr’s “North Woods” was the perfect choice to bring that mood to life. The color’s deep, soothing tone creates a cozy atmosphere, whether you’re practicing your swing or settling in for the big game.
Lighting
After trying multiple lighting setups, I landed on 4" recessed lighting — they look modern and keep the “let’s have fun” vibe alive. They provide just the right brightness for accurate launch tracking without washing out the projector.
